86th Annual Founders Day - July 24th

We are excited to invite you back to Alpha Gamma Sigma on July 24th for the 86th annual Founders Day. Once again, we welcome you to join us for golf at L.A. Nickell. Greens fees plus a cart for 18 holes will be $33. Alumni and active members of all skill levels are welcome to join. Please let me know if you are interested in golf so that I can book tee times. We are also discussing the possibility of doing a trapshoot that morning for the non-golfers. If you are interested in that idea please say so.

We welcome you to arrive at the house as early as 11:00 a.m. to meet and greet fellow alumni and enjoy some games in the front yard. We will begin lunch at 12:30 p.m., to be followed by the business meeting at 1:30 p.m.

We will have a special speaker, Tom Hellman, from the Greek Alumni Consortium, join us. He will speak about issues facing the Greek community at Mizzou and what his group is doing to make changes to the way the Greek community and University interact. We will also have an active chapter update from President Kyle Kuschel and from Mom Walsh.

For the main event, we will hear from Building for the Future Campaign Chairman, Alan Wessler, and the rest of his fundraising team. Following the formal activities, several of us will meet at Harpos for some additional fraternizing.

Hope to see you there!

Schedule:
8:00 Golf or Trapshoot
11:00 Arrive at House
12:30 Lunch
1:30 Business Meeting
After the meeting: Harpos!

Alpha Gamma Sigma Hosts Red, White and Blue BBQ

On May 2, the men of Alpha Gamma Sigma and Delta Tau Delta hosted their second annual Red, White and Blue BBQ. The event is held to help raise money for the Central Missouri Honor Flight. Honor Flight is an organization which sends Word War II veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit their war memorials. In the BBQs first year, the two MU fraternities were able to raise $6,500 for Honor Flight. In hopes to raise more money this year several new aspects were added to the BBQ.

One of those new aspects involved a special guest appearance. In developing a strong relationship with the Honor Flight organization, the two fraternities were able to tap in to their beneficiarys resources and host Ron Powers, author of a New York Times bestseller, Flags of our Fathers. In 2006 Powers book was made in to a movie directed by Clint Eastwood. In a brief speech, Mr. Powers spoke of our countrys heroes and thanked them for the role the played in protecting our countrys liberty. In addition to speaking, Powers also held a book sale and signing with proceeds going directly to Honor Flight.

Thanks to the appearance of Ron Powers, a silent auction, the support of the Columbia community this years BBQ was raised approximately $13,000. All of the proceeds go directly to the Central Missouri Honor Flight. Alpha Gamma Sigma and Delta Tau Delta plan to continue to host the Red, White and Blue BBQ each spring. With the growing support of the Columbia community the fraternities hope to raise even more money in the coming years and continue to support our veterans.
